In 2005, while taking 14 months off to travel, Snugs and I headed to Egypt to visit our good friends Ahmed & Tina. Ahmed is an Egyptian born teacher who spent most of his life in Canada, and Tina is his Canadian wife. They moved to Egypt with their young daughter, Michelle, and had been living in Maadi--a leafy green suburb of Cairo--for the previous 10 years or so. While Egypt is pretty mind blowing on its own, it was made all the more mind blowing by the hospitality of our wonderful friends, to whom we owe an incredible debt of gratitude. We spent a month in Egypt and it was an experience Snugs and I will never ever forget.
If you start with Cairo, the adventure runs chronologically, though I've separated out places of interest below so you can go straight to any place you're curious about without having to slog through every day of our journey.
