Road Trip Across America
In 2007, with heavy hearts, Snugs and I left America after seven happy years in California. We decided to say goodbye to America with a good old fashioned cross-country road trip, so we loaded up our old beater of a car and headed across the USA from San Francisco to Toronto. Our incredible 1992 Volvo (the Red Dwarf) took a huge beating but made the journey like a champ. The air conditioning died somewhere around Nevada and I blew the transmission in Wyoming (I think) so we made it the rest of the way in sweltering heat, at 80mph in second gear with about 1,000 lbs of extra weight in the car. It was a fantastic journey. America is a mindbogglingly beautiful country. If you're looking for evidence of some sort of higher power, you'll find it out there amidst the rocks and desert and forests and mountains and salt flats and endless sky. There must be about a million different routes you can take to cross America and I could happily spend the rest of my life just driving back and forth across the country until I'd exhausted them all.
